Welcome to the Desert Shadows Middle School

Diamondbacks Demand Deeper Comprehension

Proud home of the Diamondbacks. We are one of 10 schools in the Nogales Unified School District located in Nogales, Arizona. You’ll find us about an hour south of Tucson. Our school serves students in the 6th through 8th grades. Our teachers are dedicated to the students in their care and set high standards for continued growth. We are proud to offer many activities for students here on campus and can boast small class sizes. We feel that everyone succeeds in an environment where each student receives individual attention.

To highlight a few important matters. Students must carry your planners with them on a daily basis. They will be used as passes, for recording homework, interacting with parents, and other uses that teachers will share with parents. These planners are provided to all students free of cost, but replacement cost is $5.00. Students are encouraged to read the contents of the planner to be informed about Desert Shadows Middle School guidelines and expectations.

Students are expected to take care of their textbooks, their study environment, and each other. Have pride in themselves and their school. To have integrity all 180 days of the school year. In doing so, students will represent themselves, their family, DSMS, and their community with pride.

Regarding passing periods and locker usage, students are encouraged to open their lockers before school, during lunch, and after school only. To take their books for the morning classes before 1st hour and exchange them for their afternoon textbooks at lunchtime. Being responsible means being on time to class.

Details on uniforms, tops need to be plain purple or white. No designs are allowed unless they are school logos. Tucking in is highly recommended. Refer to your planner for other specifics. The first day of school is their only warning about dress code.

Regarding lunches, it is the same as last year: all 6th graders and all 7th graders have first lunch. And all 8th graders have second lunch.

Students, are invited to make this year a great one by having a positive attitude, attend classes on time, complete homework and submit it on time, respect their peers, attend tutoring, and reach their academic and personal goals. Every adult on campus is here to help our students to become excellent citizens and young adults; please be receptive to that assistance. Once again our three character goals this year are be responsible, be respectful, and be a positive role model. These are the expectations we have of our students in the classroom, cafeteria, library, hallways, restrooms, assemblies, and buses. Following these three simple guidelines, and every student will be successful at DSMS.

We are the Desert Shadows Diamondbacks, and we have so much to be proud about, including our dynamic teachers and staff, strong academic programs, and fun sports and activities. Let’s honor the strong academic traditions established by our school as we continue to achieve our Desert Shadows Middle School motto: Diamondbacks Demand Deeper Comprehension. Let’s make this year an outstanding one, striving for academic success.
